 Escrita por John Phillips y Michelle Phillips, inspirada en la nostalgia de Michelle por California.

“California Dreamin'” fue la primera canción y primer gran éxito de The Mamas & The Papas.

La letra de la canción expresa el anhelo del narrador por la calidez de Los Ángeles durante un invierno frío en la ciudad de Nueva York.

El single fue lanzado a fines de 1965, pero no tuvo éxito inmediato.
